Book Obsession

Prenna is a Traveller. She has come from the future to escape the plague that has wiped out most of her family and has changed the world. Ethan, a friend from school, may know more about Prenna's secrets than she realizes, and knowing about Prenna could put them both in terrible danger. As Prenna begins to discover, her "community" may not have her best interests at heart, or even be trying to save the world from the grim future she knows is in store. When a stranger reveals some of the details that lead up to the start of the plague and destruction of the world, it is up to Prenna and Ethan to try to set things right before it is too late.

This story was creative and interesting. I loved Ethan and the banter between him and Prenna. A very enjoyable read!

Victoria, one of the Whitfields of Whitfield County, has just returned home from boarding school, when she meets Mickey Rhodale, one of the infamous Rhodale boys who are nothing but trouble. Their chance encounter at the site of a meth lab explosion leads to a Romeo and Juliet style romance, where no one is safe. Can Mickey and Victoria find a way to be together and end the feud that has lasted several generations? 

I loved that Victoria took the time to make up her own mind about Mickey, and was able to see the good in him, sometimes even in spite of him. The drugs, guns, and lawlessness of Mickey's family has had several collisions with the uptight, and seemingly perfect Whitfield family for several generations. This leads to danger and high tension, as Victoria and Mickey come to realize they will stop at nothing to be together. A very enjoyable read!

Sophie has recovered from a devastating accident with an addiction to pain killers. After spending months with her aunt, getting clean, she has returned home to her best friend Mina, and Mina's brother Trev. When Mina is murdered and drugs are found on the scene everyone is quick to believe Sophie is to blame. Forced into rehab by her parents, Sophie returns to find Mina's killer.

This story was heartbreaking and suspenseful! An unexpected love triangle adds complications and confusion for Sophie, who finds herself in danger from Mina's killer. I really enjoyed this story, its complications and suspense kept me reading late into the night.

In a world where people are divided into Day and Night, Sol, a Night person, breaks laws in order to try to fulfill her grandfather's dying wish. D'Arcy, a Day person, works in the hospital where Sol ends up, and comes to her aid. Nothing turns out the way Sol plans and she and D'Arcy end up on the run. Mystery, intrigue, baby switching/ kidnapping and romance all bring this fast-paced plot to a dramatic conclusion.

This novel was hard to put down! Creative and exciting, I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

An amazing ending to an incredible series!  

Here are a few of the books I'm reading and reviewing this month!  I am most excited about Laini Taylor's Dreams of Gods and Monsters!   If you haven't read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone yet, check it out!  This is a great series and I'm looking forward to the conclusion.  

So here's a peek at some of the books I'm reading and reviewing this month.  I'm so excited to have gotten some great ARC's lately!  I've already read 4 of the books, so I'll start posting reviews soon!

Corinthe is determined to do whatever she needs to do to get back to the beloved home she was banished from. Until she meets Luc. This is the first connection she has ever made with a human, and she has no idea what it means or what to do with it. 

This story is filled with twists turns, and creepy other worlds, as Corinthe and Luc try to follow their hearts and get what they want most. But these two things are not always the same.

A few books I am eagerly awaiting for in 2014:

According to my Goodreads bookshelf, I read 178 books this year!  I read a lot of great books, but here are some of my favorites (in no particular order) as choosing and ranking my favorites is very difficult for me!

I'm sure there are more that I should have added. but as I said choosing favorites and ranking is difficult for me because I like different things for different reasons, so it is hard to compare one book to another!  Happy New Year and Happy Reading!

So I couldn't fit anymore books in the last update!  So here is the rest:

December 28th I read Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson.  So this was a great book and an absolute tearjerker!  Read at your own risk, have tissues ready!

December 29th I didn't get to read House of Scorpion because I was travelling, and I had to drive.  I hope to get back to it in the future.

December 30th I didn't read Just Like Fate by Cat Patrick and Suzanne Young because I had read it recently (and had the privilege of reviewing an ARC). I loved this story, but, I needed to get started on some ARC's due to come out in January!

December 31st I am planning to read The Bane Chronicles: What really happened in Peru by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan.  This shouldn't be a problem, as it is a novella and I love both of these authors and the Shadowhunter world!  

So I will have read a grand total of 23 of the 31 books in Simon PulseIt's 31 days of reading!  Wow, that's a lot for me!  I don't think I've ever read 23 books in a month before!  This was a lot of fun!  Head over to pulseit.com apparently they post books to read for free regularly, so I'm looking forward to reading more books in the future from this site! 

So, I've been reading like crazy trying to keep up with Simon PulseIt's 31 days of reading at PulseIt.com! 

December 18th I read Honey, Baby, Sweetheart by Deb Caletti.  This was a fun, enjoyable story!

December 19th I read The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler.  This was a sad, but sweet story of a young girl watching her father with Alzheimers.  It is also a sweet romance and story about family and sisterhood.

December 20th I read Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian.  This was not quite what I expected, but I enjoyed the twists!  I will be looking for the next novel soon!

December 21st I read The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han.  This was a somewhat heartbreaking, but enjoyable romance story.  I will be looking for the next story in this series! 

December 22nd I reread Scott Westerfield's Uglies.  I read through this series previously, and if you haven't read it you should!  This is one of the most fun dystopian series I have read and enjoyed!

December 23rd I read Changeling by Philippa Gregory, the first book in her Order of Darkness Series.  This book is more of a YA historical fiction novel, which I enjoyed because it was different than the rest of the books I've been reading. 

December 24th and December 25th I didn't read the books because of the holidays, family and such.  I hope to get back to Orson Scott Card's Pathfinder, and I have already read and loved Clockwork Angel and the other novels in its series by Cassandra Clare.  

On December 26th, for some reason, I was unable to log on to the website and when I sent a password reset I didn't receive it in time to access Suzanne Young's The Program.  I was totally disappointed, as this was one of the books I was most looking forward to.  

December 27th I read Poison Princess by Kresley Cole and loved it!  This was a very original and suspenseful story, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

So here is my update for my Simon Pulse 31 Days of Reading Challenge:

Dec. 13th Winger by Andrew Smith: I didn't finish!  Honestly, I think I would have liked this book, if I'd had more time- I only got to read 5%! But reality called and there was a mountain of laundry and Christmas shopping that HAD to get done!

Dec. 14th Wither by Lauren DeStefano:  Finished and loved!  I read and enjoyed this series before, and It was nice to return to this world!

Dec. 15th Golden by Jessi Kirby: Finished and really enjoyed!  This book surprised me, it was a very enjoyable coming of age novel!

Dec. 16th Letting Ana Go by Anonymous: Finished and not quite sure how to explain my feelings about it!  I never read Go Ask Alice, so I didn't know what I was in for. Heartbreaking, real, horrifying and real!

Dec. 17th Haven by Kristi Cook: Finished and enjoyed!  Okay, so there are some obvious similarities to Twilight here, but I still really enjoyed this book!

And, I finished Rot and Ruin the other night so that bring my total up to 14 out of the 17 books so far!  Yay! Go, me!

Can I just say, I loved this book!  I had heard good things, knew it would have a major cliffhanger, but WOW!  I loved the story, I loved the characters, I loved the sarcasm, I loved the romance, and I hated the ending (cliffhanger!) and I cannot wait to read the second book, although I hear it's ending is even worse that this one was!  

I've been too busy reading to write, LOL!.  So, here's what's been happening with my 31 days of reading with Simon Pulse challenge:

Day 3: Let the Sky Fall Finished and loved it! I had this on my to-read list for awhile, so I was glad to finally get to read it, and for free no less!

Day 4: The Forsaken Finished and loved it!  A bit like The Maze Runner, very enjoyable!

Day 5: Unwind Finished and loved it!  I had heard of this book, but didn't know what it was about, really.  I was pleasantly surprised.

Day 6: Blood Red Road Didn't Finish, unfortunately.  I had a headache and the writing just wasn't working for me that day.  I have been wanting to read this, so I will definitely come back to it at some point.

Day 7: Fault Lines Finished and really enjoyed.  This is one of those heartbreakers.  It involves rape, but is told from the girl's boyfriend's point of view.

Day 8: Maid of Secrets Didn't finish, mainly I just didn't have enough time in the day, and I have to sleep at some point, LOL. Intriguing story so far, I will definitely come back to it in the future!

Day 9: Linked Finished and loved it!  Creepy dystopian novel, very enjoyable!

Day 10: Crash Finished and really enjoyed!  Interesting story and concept, enjoyed the sarcasm, wit, and romance!

Day 11:  Rot and Ruin Haven't finished yet, but I'm hoping to get back to it tonight!  Enjoying it so far, and I'm not usually a zombie fan.  

Day 12:  Two-Way Street Finshed and really enjoyed!  Told in alternating points of view and time frames (before and after) made for a little suspense to this enjoyable teen romance. 

So far, I have finished 9 out of the first 12 books!  Pretty good, right? It's better than I thought I would do!
